Dad has experience kidney failure as a result of the most recent antibiotics they're using to fight the infection. Basically, the tough decision was whether to have him continue to fight the infection with the stuff that simply wasn't working well, or to risk giving him kidney failure (and bring him back from it) in considerably less time. The doctors opted to risk kidney failure.. and, well, they failed. So they'll have to get his kidneys back up to order. There's a chance it will not lead to dialysis. He's on various medications to help out with the kidney problem.

Although everything looks dire, and he is in critical condition, the general tone of the doctors is that there's nothing to be overly concerned about. It's unlikely dad's life is threatened by this. But it is scary, none-the-less.

Because he's fading in and out of consciousness, and because visits are wearing him down, we're asking that folks neither call nor try to visit him until you hear otherwise. If you've tried to contact him today, but couldn't get through, understand that we pulled the phone off-line.. he truly needs his rest.

On the positive side, his cell counts continue to improve dramatically. It seems since they started using this unpleasant antibiotic, his blood count has been shooting up. You may compare today's against yesterday's results.
