I apologize for the delay in updating this web page, but it's been a busy day for my sister and me. We've had to do a lot of running back and forth today. Tomorrow, I will be seeing his mother, so things may be delayed again (my sister won't be available as she's going to be at the hospital).
The doctors decided to put Dad on a dialyses machine for a couple of hours. They've put a catheter in his neck for this purpose. Although the machine was only hooked up for a couple of hours, the catheter will remain for a while. We won't know how well this helps him out until they do some more blood work on him, which will happen tomorrow morning. I'm hoping I can provide this information before I leave to see her.
To just look at him, though, he seems to be doing fairly well. He appeared to be somewhat alert while my sister and I were there, although quite weak from the dialyses. In fact, he was watching a nature show on television when we saw him today, and had mentioned some of the things he learned from the show.
Christy is going to be staying with him again tonight to make sure he's well taken care of (and to have an anchor in a reality he's used to). She's a little better prepared tonight... change of clothes, pillow, movies, and a couple of video games she can play on Dad's new laptop. She didn't consider any of this last night, causing her to be a little worn out.
Because he's fading in and out of consciousness, and because visits are wearing him down, we're asking that folks neither call nor try to visit him until you hear otherwise. If you've tried to contact him today, but couldn't get through, understand that we pulled the phone off-line.. he truly needs his rest.
For some positive news, the obnoxious, noisy machine they were using to purify the air has been turned off, since his levels appear to be very good. They still have the thing taking up space, but at least it doesn't have to be on anymore. The unofficial word (basically, the opinion Christy and I have) is that Dad should be out of the hospital in about two weeks, tops. He'll be weak (and we're not sure when he'll be able to return to work), but he'll probably be out of the hospital by that time. Again, this isn't a professional opinion at all, just sort of an opinion we share based on everything we're seeing here.
You may compare today's against yesterday's results.
