Dad is currently in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Arlington, VA after having collapsed in the airport.

He said he was feeling pretty bad, and decided to cut his trip short a day so the Charlotte doctors could check him out, but upon giving out at the airport, he had to be checked into a hospital there. They were able to determine that his white cell count is significantly lower than it ought to be (.1, down from the .8 he had earlier) and there was some talk about e coli. Dad had checked into a different clinic a few days before the collapse to visit where his doctor served his residency, was tested there, and had come up with no infections.

Currently, though, we do not have any word as to what precisely is going on.

Dad says he feels great. The doctors have been giving him whole blood and antibiotics, and are currently trying to grow cultures. Dad occasionally spikes fevers, but they come down, so he's apparently doing okay. He doesn't have much of an appettite, and of course, he doesn't exactly wish to hang around there. The doctors, however, are concerned since his levels are so low.

Christy (Kris) is staying with him to handle various issues, and keep him company.

I don't know of a way to contact him short of telephone, and I'm hesitant to open the floodgates of callers so I'll be releasing information here as I get it. As such, I won't be making daily reports (like this one), just sending out highlights. We are concerned about this, but we aren't worried. It's our general belief that it'll take considerably more than a bunch of tiny bugs to do this buzzard in!
